The Architecture of Global IP Routing
The Internet Protocol (IP) serves as the fundamental navigational system of the digital world. An IP address is a numerical label assigned to each device connected to a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication.
Public vs. Private Nodes
Private IP ranges, often starting with 192.168, are not routable on the public internet. Your router uses Network Address Translation (NAT), allowing multiple devices to share the public IP address assigned by your ISP. This tool identifies that external-facing public address.
Geographical Mapping (GeoIP)
GeoIP databases map IP allocation blocks to approximate regions, cities, and network providers. The result is useful for diagnostics, but it is approximate and does not identify a precise street address.
