Data Center Cooling Logic

Estimate heat dissipation and required airflow for server cabinets. Optimize HVAC requirements based on equipment Thermal Design Power (TDP).

BTU & Airflow Dynamics

BTU (British Thermal Unit) is the standard measure of heat energy in data center engineering. One Watt of electrical consumption yields approximately 3.41 BTU per hour.

Cooling Tons: One ton of refrigeration is equivalent to 12,000 BTU/hr. Large server rooms use these units to size CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioning) units.

CFM Requirements: Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM) measures the volume of air needed to remove heat. The rule of thumb for standard server environments is `CFM = BTU / (1.08 * ΔT)`, where ΔT is the temperature difference between intake and exhaust.
