PKI Fundamental
Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) is a framework of policies, procedures, and technology used to create, manage, distribute, and revoke digital certificates and public-key encryption.
X.509: The standard format for public-key certificates. It binds an identity (like a domain name) to a public key with the help of a digital signature from a trusted Certificate Authority (CA).
Chain of Trust: A certificate is trusted because its issuer is trusted. This chain continues until it reaches a Root CA, which is pre-installed in your browser or operating system's trust store.
